Biochemistry for Nurses: Homework
Read Chapter 9 and the following pages in chapter 8: 211-215 and 217-219. Then do these problems in Chapter 9: 1-55, 59,60,61,62,63,65,67,72,73,74,75,79,80
Also, read the "Professional Connections" on pages 28,141,191 and 248.
Read these pages in Chapter 11: 287-302, table 11-4 on page 305, table 11-5 on page 308, Section 11.8 pages 310-313 and box 11.2, pages 313-319 and boxes 11.3 and 11.5. Then do these problems at the end of the chapter: 2,7,8,9,10,13,15,17,18,32,33,34,43,53,56,57.
Read the following pages in chapter 12 329-331,box 12.1, 337 (bottom) -341, boxes 12.2 and 12.3, 352-354, boxes 12.7-12.8 and 12.9. Then, do the following end of chapter problems 1, 2,5,6,13,14,19,20,33,34,64

Here are the lipid structures and
names that were presented in class. Consult your notes for the ones
that you need to know. You need to know the common names, short hand
notation and structures. For example, Stearic acid is 18:0--look at the
link above to see the structure.
Read chapter 20. Skip the stuff about pI values. Instead reread your notes about pKa values and acid/base equilibria. Then, do these problems in the text: 2,3,4,5,8,9,11,13,31,33,36,42-46,48,50,51,53-62,64,66,81,88,92,97,98,99. Be sure that you can recognize all of the amino acids on pages 590 and 591. You need to know their names, (spelling counts), their three letter codes and their one letter codes. For help with the one letter codes go here.
Read chapter 21. You will need to be able to recognize each of the nucleotide bases: A, G, C, T and U. Here is a site with some practice questions. Then do these problems at the end of chapter 21: 1,7,8,9,17-30,32,33,34,37-57,61-72,75-89,92,99-102.
Read chapter 22. Chapter 8 (pages 209-219)also has some information about enzymes, activation energy and kinetics. Be sure that you understand LeChatlier's Principle. Remember that equilibrium constants indicate whether products or reactants are favored; if reaction is spontaneous, the products are favored. Kinetics are related to the activation energy and this indicates how fast a reaction happens. Also, review your notes and consult the text about enzyme control mechanisms.
Do these problems in chapter 22: 3,5,6,7,8,9,12-17,19,21,23, 25,29,32,33,36.
Read chapter 23. Do these problems: 1-24, 28-54

Read Chapter 25 and do these problems: 1-4,7-15,18,20-37,39,42
Read chapter 26. 1-91
