THE GUIDELINES These are the guidelines for Fall 2008 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You will be creating a chemistry-based (chemical or physical properties of matter explored) poster exhibit for a Science Fair. Your exhibit MUST be delivered in the Experimental Format with the following sections: Title, Date, Name(s), Purpose, Background Information, Procedure, Data, Results, Conclusions, References. Reserve your topic preference by submitting it (writing or email) to the instructor on a first-submitted, first-reserved basis. Only one poster of each topic will be allowed and up to two people may work together as a group. In addition, a complete final report summary of the poster must be emailed to the instructor AS AN ATTACHMENT in Microsoft Word (document). Please put POSTER as the subject line of the email with your name(s). You must do an original experiment. You can change or adapt published work, but you must take it in a new direction. The experiment will likely need to be conducted several times to work through flaws and clearly demonstrate the purpose at hand. Your poster grade will be based on clearly communicating the scientific merit of the experiment in the experimental format (noted in first paragraph). Grades will also be based on the originality, creativity, neatness, attractiveness, and clarity of the display. Don't try to cover too many topics broadly. Focus your topic down to 1-3 main ideas and develop these at the level of this class. You are encouraged to develop projects that you can use in your future classroom. This session should generate many ideas/projects you can use in the future. Posters will be displayed in a separate room for the Science Fair and for further review before the Final Exam. Be prepared to give a "guided tour" through your poster with individuals during the Science Fair. If you need materials or supplies, consult your instructor but please don't wait until the last moment to make your request. Attendance and participation with all of the poster presentations is expected and will count toward your grade in this class. Please be courteous, respectful and constructive in your interactions with your colleagues. Questions from the poster presentations will be included on the final exam.
