Course
Content:
We will cover Chapters 10-13, and 15-18. See the Lecture
Schedule for the order of coverage. Your grade will be based on: three hour
exams, several quizzes, a standardized comprehensive final exam prepared by
the American Chemical Society (ACS), covering both semesters (CHEM
1100 and 1110), and your performance in the laboratory components of
the course, CHEM 1112 and CHEM 1114.
|
 |
Homework: Homework
problems will be assigned. Most of these will be taken from the
Textbook. The assigned problems will not be graded, but they will appear
on quizzes and exams. You cannot expect to learn the material without
doing the homework.
|
 | Quizzes:
Quizzes will be given weekly, except during the week of an hour
exam. The material to be covered in a quiz will be announced during
the class period before the quiz. Quizzes must be taken at the
scheduled time. Make-up quizzes will not be given.
|
 |
Hour Exams:
Hour exams will be given on the days shown
in the lecture
schedule. Exams must be taken at the scheduled time. Make-up
exams will be given only under extraordinary circumstances. Written proof
verifying your reason for missing an exam is required. If you have extenuating circumstances
that involve serious and compelling reasons for missing class, you should
schedule a meeting with Dr. Perona as soon as possible, so that a plan of action
can be developed. |
 | Final Exam:
The final exam covers both semesters of Principles of Chemistry (CHEM 1100
and CHEM 1110). The exam is written by the American Chemical Society (ACS).
The ACS provides a study guide for the exam, Preparing for Your ACS
Examination in General Chemistry-The Official Guide. You can order
it online at http://www.uwm.edu/chemexams.
The price is $12.00. |
 | Laboratory: This course
includes laboratory and laboratory discussion components, CHEM 1112
and CHEM 1114, respectively, which must be taken concurrently with the
lecture component. Click here for the Laboratory
Schedule.
