Conformational Analysis problems for 2-methylbutane
Answer the following questions using computer models from the molecular models website. You have to follow the following instruction to get to the "2-methylbutane" computer models. If you click on 2-methylbutane directly sometimes it will not work.
QUESTIONS:
1) Sighting along C3-C2 of 2-methylbutane and draw six Newman projections that correspond to the computer models. Label each Newman projection with the letter that shows below each computer model. Each rotation in the computer models is corresponding to a 60° dihedral angle. To be consistent with all the drawings, the computer model should be set up so that the C4 of the 2-methylbutane is facing north (up) and the C2 is the only carbon that rotates to the right.
2) Draw an energy diagram for the A-F Newman projections of 2-methylbutane above. Carefully label the axes and each data point with the appropriate letter or structure of the Newman projection.
