My Little Margie DVD Collection #2 Episode Guide
John T Burt - 2004
The episodes in this collection were all from 1954. The video quality was very high. 1954 was before I even had access to a TV, but I actually remembered episode 1-6. I must have caught it in reruns a few years later. I was pretty young at that point. "My Little Margie" was a half hour black and white sitcom about a young woman living with her father and the problems she generated when she interfered with him and his boss. The basic story is not unlike later sitcoms but Margie's presentation was very stiff and formal with stage like sets, loud delivery of lines and little subtlety. The stories and humor also do not fully hold up to the changes time has made on society. There was also a lot stereotyping that is not funny anymore. But the biggest problem I had was accepting the character's ages. Gayle Storm, who played Margie, was 30 years old. Combine that with every costume the actors wore being a formal day suit of some kind, and it was just hard to accept her as still single, dating, unemployed and living with a father who appeared to be about 60. Still, I liked a few of the episodes and the show is more than historically interesting. I can't really recommend buying the DVDs and I don't plan to buy anymore. But the price is low. So if you are the right age to enjoy the material or are interested for other reasons, you might enjoy the stories. Go for it....
